Research Abstract |
In recent years educational institutions are attempting to actively support children with disabilities and mild developmental issues such as high functioning pervasive developmental disorder(HFPDD) and learning disabilities(LD). Facial expression recognition is an important aspect of interpersonal skills, and some HFPDD/LD children present deficits in this skill that could potentially be addressed through supportive training. In this study we monitored physiological parameters of children while they carried out various tasks involving facial expression recognition. These tasks were either diagnostic or instructional in nature. Observations were made by means of electroencephalograms, video analysis, and electromyography. A range of responses to training were observed.
