Research Abstract |
Deformation experiments of serpentinites indicate that deformation is mostly controlled by plastic flow rather than cataclastic failure at mantle conditions. This suggests that the presence of serpentinite at the subducting plate interface tends to inhibit interplate earthquakes in subduction zones
