Research Abstract |
This study aimed to analyze how peer groups were formed during free play in kindergarten as a result of the development of peer imitation in children. When the children started imitating each other intentionally, peer groups started forming by excluding those who were not performing actions that were the same as the rest of the group. Children formed small groups that had certain features, developing "assurance" relationships when they were uncertain in a social situation ; however, these assurance relationship groups "excluded" members if they did not have certain characteristics that were common with the group. The study suggests that the formation of peer groups in kindergarten need to be analyzed by studying not only the children's skill but also the social dynamics of these groups.
