Research Abstract |
In this study on the actuality of photography and history, I proved that pain experienced through photographic images can be an important moment for us, its viewers, when history presents itself to us. First, Based on my plan to pursue this study, I constructed a framework to analyze how the actuality of history comes to touch us with the help of conceptions molded by such thinkers as Walter Benjamin and Eduardo Cadava. By using these conceptions as hints, I then analyzed photographs to show the appearance of historical actuality on them. In the final year, I concluded that historical actuality comes to appear through photographic images when they let us touch a historical aspect not by depicting it but by inviting us to experience the moment of history, live.
