| Research Abstract |
This paper reviews the history of “tameni”, express purpose and cause, through Nara era to Edo era. The result suggests followings;
(1) Purpose usage, “semu-ga-tameni” construction shifted to “suru-tameni” construction.
(2) Cause usage, “suru-ga-tameni” construction shifted to “shita-tameni” construction.
(3) The change happened in the seventeenth century.
(4) The factor of change is due to perception change on realization of situation.
