Research Abstract |
We examined whether differences in saving plan account for the variation in wealth accumulation among Japanese households using micro-data. Controlling for preference parameters which affect consumption behavior, we found that planning behavior can explain the differences in wealth accumulation. We also found that discount rate has a significant negative effect on wealth accumulation, which means patient households accumulate more wealth than impatient household.
