Research Abstract |
This research empirically investigate whether Japanese deposit market effectively influences bank management. We find that deposit withdrawal induce bank managers to squeeze forbearance loans, but does not to carry out aggressive restructuring. There is week evidence that deposit withdrawal provides bank managers with incentives to deal with nonperforming loan problem. We also find that risk sensitivities of small bank depositors depend on the number of large bank branches in the prefecture.
