Research Abstract |
Cultural psychological research has found cultural differences in psychological tendencies by using self-report and behavioral measures. Compared to people in Western cultures (e.g., North Americans), East Asians (e.g., Japanese) are more likely to attend to their negative attributes and be sensitive to contextual cues like vocal tone in comprehension of emotional utterances, reflecting high interdependence. By using event related potentials (ERP), the current research tested Japanese to examine these psychological tendencies and found results expected from previous studies using behavioral measures.
