Research Abstract |
Expressions of many Al-tolerance genes are induced by ionic Al in rice. In this study, we found that a rice Al tolerance gene, STAR1, was regulated by a transcription factor, ART1 and further identified a cis-acting element recognized by ART1. We also produced transgenic rice over-expressing ART1. Although the transgenic lines showed increased expression level of ART1 and many downstream tolerance genes, the sensitivity to Al was enhanced compared to the wild type.
