Research Abstract |
It has been hypothesized that silica bodies(amorphous silica) in rice leaves, are formed without participation of organic compounds. However, HF-soluble organic compounds extracted from fan-shaped silica bodies of rice showed silica precipitation activity. These results suggest that organic compounds serve as a regulator in the biosilicification of the rice leaves like other organisms(diatom and marine sponge).
