Research Abstract

To analyze extra medical cost attribute to nosocomial infection, an estimation model using Japanese diagnosis procedure combination system was developed. Estimated extra cost attribute to nosocomial infection was 1 to 3.7 million yen per admission, and was mainly associated with coexisting illness and extended length of hospital stay. On the other hand cost for antibiotics accounts for little part of extra cost.
