Research Abstract |
In the present study, I examined the relationship between the number of bacterial in the oral cavity and general condition of nine patients (56.8±16.4 years and 14.2±10. 8 teeth) who were going to receive chemotherapy for lung cancer. There were positive correlations between the number of bacteria in the pharynx and the level of C reactive protein in the blood during chemotherapy. In addition, the number of bacteria in the pharynx was significantly higher in the subjects who administered antimicrobial agents and/or had subjective symptoms in the oral cavity than in nonantimicrobial agents and/or no subjective symptoms in the oral cavity during chemotherapy.
