Research Abstract |
Although basophils produce IL-4 in response to IL-3, we discovered that basophils lost IL-3 responsiveness upon activation. PIR-B, the negative regulatory cell surface molecule is involved in the loss of IL-3 responses in activated basophils. In addition, PIR-B also negatively regulates IgG-induced IL-4 production in activated basophils. The inhibitory mechanisms by PIR-B required a cytoplasmic region in an unknown ITIM independent manner.
