Outline of Research at the Start

中赤外以上の波長領域には各種分子の光吸収帯があるため、この領域でコヒーレント光が発生できれば、環境ガスの精密計測、麻薬・劇薬物・爆薬の検出、薬品の精密解析、ガン組織・細胞の検出や呼気の分析による病気の診断に利用でき、環境対策の進展、医療技術の革新、さらにはテロ対策に大きな力を発揮して、我々の生活に安全・安心をもたらす。しかし、コヒーレント光発生技術が確立されていない。本研究では、我々が世界に先駆けて開拓してきたカルコゲナイドガラス等の高非線形ガラスを用いたフォトニック結晶ファイバ技術を発展させ、中赤外からテラヘルツ領域にまで及ぶ光周波数コム等の高コヒーレント光の発生および制御技術を確立する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

中赤外からテラヘルツ領域には、各種分子の光吸収帯があるため、この波長領域でコヒーレント光が発生できれば、環境ガスの精密計測、麻薬・劇薬物・爆薬の検出、薬品の精密解析、ガン組織・細胞の検出、さらには呼気の分析による病気の診断に利用でき、基礎科学の発展、環境対策の進展、医療技術の革新が可能になる.
本研究課題では、我々が世界に先駆けて独自に開拓してきた赤外透過特性に優れたカルコゲナイドガラスやテルライトガラス等の高非線形ガラスを用いた微細構造光ファイバ技術を発展させ、中赤外からテラヘルツ領域のSC光や光周波数コム等の新規な高コヒーレント光の発生および光増幅等の制御技術を確立することを目的とする.単一ファイバ素子を用いて実用的なファイバーレーザが利用できる近赤外光励起による中赤外からテラへラツ領域をカバーできる高効率な高コヒーレント光源や光波制御技術は申請者が知る限り、世界的に例はなく本研究の独創性は極めて高い.今期は以下の項目について研究を進めた.
・四光波混合等の非線形現象を高効率に起こすために波長分散制御と偏波保持性が必要である.カルコゲナイドガラスを用いた全固体微細構造光ファイバによる波長分散と偏波保持性が制御可能な構造の探索を進め、有用な光ファイバ構造を明らかにした.
・非線形シュレディンガー方程式による光パルス伝搬を広い波長域で行うには、広波長域の屈折分散データが必要になる.最小偏角法による屈折分散測定では、測定波長域に限界があるため、それに代わる広波長域測定手法の研究を進めた.
・遠赤外域の透過特性の優れたファイバ素材として使用できるカルコゲナイドガラスの探索を開始した.Ge-Ga系やGe-Sb系等を候補として考え、第3および第4元素の添加によるガラスの熱的安定性の改善効果の検討を開始し、一部ファイバ化可能なガラスを見出した.

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

・波長分散および偏波保持性制御するために、コアの周囲に2つのガラスロッドを配置した構造のカルコゲナイド全固体微細構造光ファイバの波長分散と偏波保持性を解析した.その結果、コア直径が8μm、ロッド直径が10 μm、コア・ロッド間距離が12 μm程度のとき、零に近い正常分散で平坦化された波長分散を持ち偏波保持性を有したファイバ実現できることを明らかにした.また、同構造の光ファイバを実現するためAsSe系ガラスを用いて光ファイバを試作した.この同構造の光ファイバは10の-4乗以上の高いモード複屈折率ができることを明らかにした.また、波長6μmで30dB以上の消光比が実現できることを示した.さらに2から10μmの波長域でこれまでに実現されていない偏波制御された高コヒーレントスーパーコンティニューム光の発生に成功した.
・波長分散および偏波保持性制御可能なテルライト全固体微細構造光ファイバの構造解析を進めた.特に扁平形状のコアを有した光ファイバ構造を中心に構造設計を進めた.
・Ge-Ga-Te,Ge-Ga-Te-Si,Ge-Te-AgI,Ge-Ga-Te-Se,Ga-Sb-Sn-S系カルコゲナイドガラスの試作を行い、その光透過特性および熱的安定性の検討を進めた.特にGe-Se-Te系ガラスを用いてファイバ作製が可能であることを明らかにし、ファイバ作製を進めた.
・ガラス薄片表面のフレネル反射による光干渉縞の波長依存性を利用した屈折率分散測定を検討した結果、最小偏角法による屈折率分散の測定結果を用いて反射の次数を決めることにより、最小偏角法により測定できない広い波長域における屈折率分散の測定が可能になることを見出し、波長域が3から20μmの屈折率測定を可能とした.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

前年度の成果を基に、近赤外域励起による中赤外からテラヘルツ領域での高コヒーレント光の発生を検討する.さらに、研究成果を高効率広帯域波長変換や広帯域パラメトリック増幅への応用展開を目指す.そのために下記の項目の研究を推進する.
・引き続き波長分散および偏波保持性の制御されたカルコゲナイド全固体微細構造光ファイバの実現を目指す.そのためにコア、クラッドおよびロッド素材の屈折率分散特性の最適化を図る.
・光ファイバ素材として従来の素材のほか、より長波長域で光透過特性の改善が期待できるGe-Ga-Te,Ge-Ga-Te-Si,Ge-Te-AgI,Ge-Ga-Te-Se,Ga-Sb-Sn-S系等のカルコゲナイドガラスの光透過特性および熱的安定性の検討を進めつつ、Ge-Se-Te系光ファイバを実現して、広帯域中赤外スーパーコンティニューム光の発生を実現する.
・テルライト全固体微細構造光ファイバにおける低波長分散および偏波保持が可能な光ファイバ構造の研究を進め、低波長分散および偏波保持が可能な光ファイバを実現してスーパーコンティニューム光の特性を解明する.
・ガラス薄片表面のフレネル反射による光干渉縞の波長依存性を利用した屈折率分散測定を進め、最小偏角法による屈折率分散の測定結果を用いて反射の次数を決めることにより、最小偏角法により測定できない広い波長域における屈折率分散の測定を行い、測定により得られた屈折率分散のデータを光ファイバの構造設計に役立てる.
・遠赤外域でアイドラ光発生可能な波長分散特性の解析を進め、発生可能な波長域を解明する.
