Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、超スマート社会(Society 5.0)で要求される、高い機能性をもった超小型イメージングシステムを、昆虫の複眼を模倣したメタマテリアルレンズによって実現するものである。
光波長よりも小さな単位構造の配列からなるメタマテリアルレンズ「メタレンズ」は、超小型素子であり、高い機能性を付与することができる。本研究では、昆虫の目を模倣した複眼構成と、凹レンズから凸レンズまでの幅広い可変焦点機能との両方を兼ね備えた、複眼メタレンズイメージングデバイスを製作する。これにより従来のレンズ系では実現不可能な超小型イメージングシステムを実証し、新規マイクロ光システム分野の開拓に貢献する。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

In 2021, we demonstrated the Alvarez metalens using near-infrared light, fabricating a 4x4 lens array and confirming variable focus. In 2022, we integrated metalenses with actuators and developed polarization-separating metalenses. Using the Tsubame 3.0 supercomputer, we confirmed the designed variable focus functionality. In 2023, we integrated polarization-separation and variable focus functionalities, verifying their performance. Holography achieved multicolor video display, optimizing silicon nitride meta-atoms for high transmittance and efficiency. These advancements promise improved optical devices for cameras, microscopes, and AR/VR applications, enhancing technology and quality of life.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

この研究の学術的意義は、新しいメタレンズ技術の開発と応用にある。特に、複眼Alvarezメタレンズや偏光分離・可変焦点機能を持つメタレンズの設計・製作に成功し、その性能を実証したことは、光学デバイスの新たな可能性を示している。これにより、高性能で小型な光学機器の開発が進むと考えられる。

社会的意義としては、この技術がカメラ、顕微鏡、VR/ARデバイスなどに応用されることで、より高精度で鮮明な映像や画像を提供できるようになる。また、ホログラフィ技術の進展により、医療や教育、エンターテインメント分野での応用も期待され、社会全体の技術革新と生活の質向上に寄与する可能性がある。
