医療技術に対する費用対効果評価のアウトカムとして用いられるQOL（効用値）について，人々は「なぜ」そのような選好をするのかという選好を形成する根拠を解明する．そのために，日本人の健康の価値観に影響する信条や価値観などの心理的概念を調べ，さらに今後の医療資源配分に関して課題となる感染症や高額医療，終末期医療など特定の健康状態について，その影響を実証的に検証する．
