Outline of Research at the Start

暗黒物質となり得るアクシオンは自発的対称性の破れに伴う質量の軽いボゾンの一種である。XENON1T実験が反跳電子エネルギーの超過事象を報告し、太陽アクシオンによる説明を試みている。本研究は光とアクシオン的粒子(ALP)の結合に着眼し、XENON1Tが指摘する質量域のALPを直接生成かつ崩壊させて検証する。具体的には、2色から成る極短パルスレーザービームを真空中で衝突させるものであり、軽いALPを介した誘導共鳴散乱を模型に依らず実験室で探索できる。国内外の高強度レーザーを駆使して、2ビームによる準平行系散乱、および、3ビームによる対称入射角散乱によりXENON1Tが指摘する質量-結合域を重点的に検証する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

京都大学化学研究所サイト:
R5年度はeV質量域のアクシオン的粒子探索に重点をおき、3ビームによる対称入射角散乱において、昨年度構築した入射角度を可変とする衝突装置により、eV質量域を走査的に探索することに初挑戦した。加えて、R4年度中、2ビームによる準平行系散乱による探索において、生成用レーザービーム強度を1桁増強した状態で探索を実施した結果、プラズマ生成と光学素子表面起因の背景信号光の増光が見られた。これらの背景光の出射角分布は、集光軸上に集中する兆候が見られるため、この出射角分布を利用した背景光除去方法(日食フィルター法)を確立した上で、R5年度に探索を実施した。並行して、誘導光の短パルス化へ向けた光学パラメトリック増幅のための装置を導入し、近未来の探索へ向けた光学経路の再設計を実施した。
欧州連合ルーマニアELI-NPサイト:
R4年度は、比較的低強度のビームを用いたコミッショニング用に探索用光学素子群を、大型の低真空度容器内に導入して、様々な診断を実施した。R5年度は、高強度ビームによる探索へ向けて、これらの探索用光学素子群を、高真空度に対応した中型の真空容器に移設した。

Reason

計画したことは、ほぼスケジュール通り完了できた。一方、探索の試みの結果、想定外の背景光の存在も測定しており、今後、さらなる背景光除去の工夫が必要であることが分かっているため。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

R5年度中に取得できた探索データの解析結果を踏まえて、論文を執筆、出版するのと並行して、以下の研究を推進する。
京都大学化学研究所サイト:
eV質量域のアクシオン的粒子探索のため、3ビームによる対称入射角散乱において、R5年度までに構築・較正した入射角度を可変とする衝突装置により、eV質量域を走査的に探索する。並行して、2ビームによる準平行系散乱による探索において、R5年度中に確立したプラズマ生成と光学素子表面起因の背景信号光除去方法を用いて、数10 meV~数100 meV質量域の探索を実施する。加えて、光学パラメトリック増幅を利用して極短パルス化した誘導光ビームを用いて、さらに高感度な探索を同質領域にて試みる。
欧州連合ルーマニアELI-NPサイト:
R5年度中に、高強度ビームによる探索へ向けて、高真空度に対応した真空容器への探索用光学素子群の移設が完了した。R6年度は、京大化学研究所のレーザー強度よりも1桁以上高い高強度レーザーを用いて、数meV~数100 meV質量域のALP探索を試みる。
