Outline of Research at the Start

太陽フレアやコロナ質量放出などの太陽面爆発現象は太陽対流層で生成された磁束が太陽表面で黒点を形成した後、不安定化する結果として発生し、惑星間空間に大きな影響を与える。しかし、対流層・太陽大気・惑星間空間を繋ぐ物理は未開拓であった。本研究では、この困難を我々が開発した太陽フレア物理予測スキームを軸に各領域の先進モデル群を連結することで克服し、太陽・太陽圏を包括した爆発現象の全体像を初めて明らかにする。これにより、①太陽面爆発の早期予測を実現すると共に、②フレアの規模と頻度のべき乗則の原因を解明し、③太陽フレアの最大限界を決定する物理を解明することで、宇宙環境変動の理解と予測を格段に発展させる。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

太陽フレアやコロナ質量放出(CME)などの太陽面爆発現象は太陽内部(対流層)でのダイナモ過程で生成された磁束が太陽表面を貫いて黒点を形成した後、太陽大気中で不安定化する結果として発生する。さらに、太陽面爆発は地球の電磁気圏のみならず人工衛星や電力網など現代社会を支える基盤にも多大な影響を与える。しかし、太陽内部・太陽大気・惑星間空間の領域間では物理変数とスケールの著しい乖離があり、観測可能な情報にも大きな隔たりがあるため各領域の研究は分断されている。その為、太陽ダイナモと太陽フレアの物理的連関は未解明である。また、太陽表面で発生するフレアとその遥か上空におけるCMEの形成と運動の関係も十分に理解できていない。すなわち、太陽と太陽圏を包括したシステムにおける太陽面爆発現象の全体像を捉えることは未だできていない。このため、①太陽フレアの原因となる磁束は太陽内部(対流層)でどのように形成されるのか?②対流層における磁束形成から太陽表面での黒点の成長進化に至るどの段階でフレア発生は決定づけられているのか?③惑星間空間におけるCMEの性質は太陽フレア及びその原因となる太陽内部ダイナミクスとどのように関係しているのか?④太陽恒星フレアの一般的性質である規模と頻度のべき乗則の原因は何であるか?⑤何が太陽恒星フレアの最大エネルギーを決めるのか?発生可能な最大の太陽面爆発現象はどのようなものか?という学術的「問い」はいずれも未解決である。本研究ではこれらの問いを解決するため、研究代表者が世界に先駆けて実現した太陽フレア物理予測スキーム(κスキーム)を軸に、太陽対流層の対流・ダイナモシミュレーションモデル、太陽活動領域モデル、惑星間空間モデルなど我々が開発した先進モデル群を相互に連結すると共に、精密観測とモデルの比較実証を通して太陽・太陽圏を包括した爆発現象の全体像を初めて明らかにする。

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

これまで開発した太陽対流層の第一原理シミュレーションを利用し、様々な異なる条件で太陽内部の磁束が太陽表面に上昇し、黒点領域を形成するアンサンブル・シミュレーションを行うと共に、その結果のフレア発生可能性をkappaスキームを用いて定量的に評価することに成功した。その結果、フレア発生領域が対流層内部の下降流の上部に捻じれた磁束が上昇した際に形成されることを明らかにした(Kaneko et al. 2022)。これは下降流による磁束の沈み込みの際に太陽表面で双磁極が衝突すると共に、磁束内の磁気ヘリシティが磁束管のひねり(writhe)に変換されるためであることを見出した。また、前年度に出版した太陽差分回転のシミュレーション結果の詳細な解析を行い、MHD対流乱流内の角運動輸送の新しい物理プロセスを見出すと共に、日震学測定との比較を通したモデル検証について議論を展開した。さらに、太陽地球圏環境予測に関する英語教科書を出版し、太陽フレア、CME、太陽周期の理解と予測に関する現在の到達点と課題についてとりまとめた論文を出版した。研究代表者の草野は名古屋大学宇宙地球環境研究所において開催された国際シンポジウムThe 5th ISEE Symposium Toward the Future of Space-Earth Environmental Researchを議長として開催し、宇宙地球環境研究の将来展望について議論を行った。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

太陽フレア物理予測スキーム(κスキーム)の改良を行い、これまで予測できなかった少数の例外イベントについて、予測できなかった原因を明らかにすると共に、Mクラス以下のフレアに対する予測能力を評価することで、フレア発生機構の一般的に理解を目指す。太陽活動領域への磁気ヘリシティ入射と非ポテンシャル磁場の起源についてシミュレーションで探り、太陽内部の磁束管のねじれを起源とするものと、太陽表面運動を原因とするものの寄与を定量化する。また、太陽対流層深部からの磁束管の上昇過程を計算し、太陽黒点の構造を決定する原因を明らかにする。さらに、噴出型フレアのデータ駆動型シミュレーションの詳細解析を進め、CMEとして発展する噴出現象の発生とその方向までも予測するための方法について検討する。惑星間CMEの伝播シミュレーションと惑星間シンチレーション観測の同化を複数のイベントについて行い、CMEの地球到来予測の改善を試みる。
