Outline of Research at the Start

ビッグバン後の宇宙で誕生してきた星が進化し、超新星爆発などで新たな元素を生み出すと、やがてそれは次の世代の星に取り込まれる。その繰り返しのなかで星の大集団である銀河系が形成されてくる。その過程をたどるには、銀河系に生き残る年齢の高い星を詳細に調べることが重要であり、そのために有用な明るい金属欠乏星を網羅的に探査し、詳細な化学組成を測定するとともに、それを説明することのできる超新星による元素合成とその結果が次世代の星に取り込まれるまでの過程の理論研究を推進する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

明るい金属欠乏星の探査・観測にむけ、東京大学木曽観測所シュミット望遠鏡の広視野CMOSカメラに金属欠乏星検出に感度のある狭帯域フィルタを部分的に搭載して試験観測を実施し、検出された候補天体を西はりま天文台等で分光観測して金属量等を決定した。全視野での観測に必要な狭帯域フィルタを製作して搭載準備を完了した(繰越により2023年度に実施)。
分光探査望遠鏡LAMOSTで検出された候補天体に対してすばる望遠鏡を用いて化学組成を決定した約400天体につき、位置天文衛星Gaiaのデータと組み合わせて銀河系内の運動を決定し、化学組成と軌道運動の相関を調査した(2023年度に論文としてとりまとめた)。これらの天体の化学組成データを独立したデータベースとして公開することにより、本研究で得られた均質な組成データについて、広く検索と利活用が可能となった。また、2022年6月に公開されたGaiaデータの情報についてデータベースに取り入れるデータ項目を検討している。
高速回転星の起こす重力崩壊型超新星における爆発的元素合成を検討し、pプロセス原子核の生成に寄与する可能性を示した。初代星が数十太陽質量のブラックホールの起源であるために満たすべき条件を、金属欠乏星の元素組成の観測結果も用いて明らかにした。また、AGN周囲の降着円盤では大質量星が多く作られる初期質量関数となり、それにより観測される元素組成を説明できることを示した。
宇宙論的な矮小銀河形成シミュレーションを実施し、超新星爆発によって放出される物質を取り込んで形成した次世代星の化学組成を示した。また、宇宙論的な銀河系形成シミュレーションを用いて、銀河系の構成要素となった矮小銀河で生まれた金属欠乏星のユーロピウム(Eu)分布を導き、金属量が太陽の300分の1以下のEuに富んだ星は宇宙誕生から40億年以内に矮小銀河で形成されたことが明らかになった。

Reason

東京大学木曽観測所での金属欠乏星の探査に向けた狭帯域フィルタの製作は、新型コロナウィルス感染症拡大の影響を受けて繰越を必要としたが、計画どおり進み、2022年度には全視野の4分の1で試験観測を実施して実際に金属欠乏星の検出が行えることを確認するとともに、2023年度には全視野をカバーするのに必要な狭帯域フィルタの製作を完了した。
高分散分光観測にもとづく化学組成の測定と、位置天文データにもとづく星の運動情報とを組み合わせた研究も進捗し、本研究で構築・拡張しているデータベースへの登録と活用が進んだ。
大質量星の進化と超新星爆発による元素合成の理論研究、および爆発的な重元素合成を取り込んだ銀河系形成シミュレーションによる重元素の起源の理論研究も着実に進展した。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

国際的にも明るい金属欠乏星に着目した観測計画が複数進んでおり、特に、位置天文衛星Gaiaが行っている分光観測によって得られているスペクトルを用いた金属欠乏星同定の研究も進展している。本研究で行っている狭帯域フィルタを用いた手法とこれらのデータを組み合わせた効率的な探査計画を立案しており、実際の観測において最適化を図る。
