Outline of Research at the Start

太陽系には小型岩石惑星(地球型)、巨大ガス惑星(木星型)、中型氷惑星(海王星型)という異なる型の惑星がある。木星や火星の衛星への探査計画や系外惑星の衛星観測など、太陽系内外の衛星のデータ拡充が今後期待されている。我々は世界で唯一、全ての型の惑星の衛星形成の理論研究を行ってきた経験から衛星系形成の本質は「固/液/気相が混在する周惑星円盤の相変化も伴う温度・力学進化であり、各相の組成の多様性が衛星系の多様性を生む」という着想を得た。本研究ではこの着想のもとに高精度数値計算を実施し、従来の円盤説、巨大衝突説、潮汐捕獲説を統一して全ての型の惑星の衛星形成の総合モデルを構築する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

火星衛星については、火星へ氷岩石混合天体の衝突後に形成される水蒸気と岩石ダストの円盤の乱流粘性進化について検討し、各場所における温度変化も計算できるようになったので、水蒸気の凝縮のモデル化の構築を始めた。他方、土星リングのすぐ外側に存在する順行衛星はリングの拡散進化によって形成された可能性がある。その場合、土星リングの形成時期が問題になる。ほぼ100%氷でできているリング粒子が惑星間塵に汚染されていないことからリングは比較的最近形成されたという考えがあるが、Nature Geoscience に発表したわれわれの論文は、惑星間塵の降り積もりは高速衝突でリング粒子表面は汚染されず、リングの形成は土星形成と同時期でも矛盾はないことを示した。このモデルに従うと、近年発見されて謎となっていたリングから土星への「有機物の雨」は、惑星間塵の高速衝突で形成されて放出された複雑有機物と考えられることに気づき、それについても論文を執筆し始めている。さらに土星ではリングから弾き出される前の原始衛星はリング粒子群と複雑な重力作用のもとにリングに複雑な構造を形成する。探査機のカッシーニはその詳細な画像データを残しており、それらの構造形成の起源は明らかになっていなかった。われわれはグローバルな3Dで高精度の重力N体シミュレーションを行い、原始衛星がリングの淵に形成する垂直壁の生成をシミュレーションで再現することに成功し、それが、原始衛星による重力散乱で生成されたリング粒子の水平方向の運動が粒子同士の衝突で垂直方向に転化されるということを明らかにした。また、構造の時間的変化から原始衛星の軌道変化を読み取る方法論も開発し、カッシーニの画像から実際の衛星の軌道変化を読み出し、一方でその軌道変化の原因についても探った。

Reason

火星への氷岩石混合天体の衝突についてのシミュレーションによって、衝突天体の氷成分が多い場合、氷成分の蒸発によって岩石成分は未分化のまま残ることを 示した結果は論文を国際ジャーナルに投稿し、査読に対応して修正し、現在再投稿の査読結果待ちである。天王星における巨大天体衝突シミュレーションの数値計算結果の状態方程式依存の物理的解釈行い論文を執筆中である。 土星リング粒子への惑星間塵の表面への降り積り(衝突)に関する研究は、土星リングの形成タイミング、形成メカニズムを制約する重要な結果であり、Nature Geoscience に掲載された。多数のリング粒子と衛星の相互作用による高精度重力N体シミュレーションの結果は、第一論文は海外の有名学会誌 (Icarus) に掲載され、第二論文も受理された。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

火星は岩石主体の惑星で衛星も岩石主体、天王星は氷主体の惑星だが衛星は氷・岩石が半々の組成である。これらの衛星形成について、共に氷岩石混合天体衝突を起源としているという仮説の検証をさらに進める。そのため、周惑星円盤の時間進化(半径方向一次元の拡散方程式による解析)、周惑星円盤内での衛星形成(N体計算)を一般的にシームレスに解くスキームもできてきた。このスキームは地球の月形成の巨大衝突説の検証にも応用する。地球の月形成の巨大衝突説は力学的な特徴は説明するが、それぞれの物質の同位体比には大きな謎が残っている。この謎の解決にも迫りたい。このように、火星と天王星に加え地球の衛星系の形成を統一的に説明するモデルを構築する。土星のリング・衛星については観測データを解析しているフランスの研究チームとの共同研究を始める予定である。例えば、惑星間塵のリング粒子への衝突研究において、これまで無視していた粒子の空隙率や様々な組成まで考慮した大規模な三次元衝突計算をiSALEで実行中であり、観測との精密な比較を行う。これらをとりまとめ、衛星形成の一般化を行い、Springer から依頼されている衛星形成の教科書を仕上げたい。
