Outline of Research at the Start

本研究の目的は、これまで独立して進んできた気象・水文モデル予測とデータ同化・機械学習を統合し、「富岳」時代の高精度・高頻度なリアルタイム豪雨・洪水予測を確立することである。近年、台風や線状降水帯などの水害が頻発化し、豪雨・洪水予測の更なる改善や、ダム操作等による緩和が急務である。スパコン「富岳」を用いた研究により、(1) 天気予報で発展した最先端データ同化を活用した、気象・水文モデルによる豪雨・洪水予測、(2)高速計算可能な機械学習による高頻度な豪雨・洪水予測、(3) AIによるダム操作の最適化 を実施し、新時代のリアルタイム豪雨・洪水予測技術を実現する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

研究の目的は、高精度・高頻度なリアルタイム豪雨・洪水予測を確立することである。2023年度は下記(a)-(d)の研究を推進した。
(a)極端気象予測の改善: 雲微物理の不確定要素である雪氷種は、モデル予測の精度を左右する重要な要素であるが、現状では検証データが十分にない。これまでに雪氷種画像を分類する畳み込み画像識別器CNN開発していたが、2023年度は新たに雪氷種分類についてのフィールド観測を複数実施し、これまでに開発してきたCNN学習器の検証を進めた。
(b)水文データ同化による洪水予測の高精度化: 降雨・流出・氾濫一体解析モデルRRIにアンサンブルカルマンフィルタ (EnKF)を実装し、雄物川を対象にした実験を行い、初期値改善によりリアルタイム洪水・浸水予測を高精度化した。特に、気象庁のメソアンサンブル予測や、モデルパラメータに摂動を与える方法を複数試行することでシステムの安定化を実現し、水位情報のデータ同化により洪水予測の高精度化を達成した。
(c)衛星ビッグデータを用いた豪雨の高頻度予測: 線状降水帯の発達の鍵となる水蒸気や降水量などの高解像分布を予測するため、深層学習による超解像研究に取り組んだ。一般的な畳み込みニューラルネットワークと、注意機構を含むTransformerによる超解像器を開発し、Transformerによる高精度・高解像度な超解像技術を開発した。更に、降水のダブルペナルティによる弱い雨の生成を解決するため、コスト関数に最適輸送距離を適用する超解像技術を開発した。
(d)AIダム操作最適化による災害緩和手法の構築:ここでは高速計算可能な洪水予測エミュレータを開発し洪水の高頻度予測を開発した。特に今年度は、これまで最大浸水深のみを予測可能だった学習器を高度化し、浸水の時系列を予測可能な学習器へと発展を図った。また、AIによる災害緩和手法の開拓にむけて強化学習研究を開始した。

Reason

(a)-(d)のいずれの研究も、提案時の計画通りに進捗している。3年度を終え、各年とも複数の英語論文が出版されるなど、着実に科学成果が出始めている。また、研究に参加する修士学生も、気象情報次元圧縮手法開発や、深層学習器による超解像、モデルパラメータの効率的な最適化に関する研究を進めて2023年度に査読付き和文誌を発表している。研究進捗・成果創出の両面で、良好に進捗しているといえる。更に、新しい技術として量子アニーリングに関する研究も開発し、データ同化を量子計算で高速化する研究を進めて論文を投稿中である。本プロジェクトを進めつつ、その発展研究についても順調に進んでいる状況にある。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

今後の推進方策は、下記(a)-(c)の推進となる
(a)極端気象予測の改善:これまでに開発した雪氷種を分類する畳み込み画像識別器CNN開発について、2023年度に実施した実雪氷種に関するフィールドキャンペーンデータも使用して高度化し、複数の論文化を図る。特に、明瞭な雪氷種ではない写真データに対して、「未分類」といった判断が学習器に可能か、詳しく調査する。
(b)水文データ同化による洪水予測の高精度化: これまでに開発してきた、雄物川を対象にしたRRI-EnKFや洪水氾濫エミュレータのプロトタイプを、他流域にも展開し、システムの一般化・高度化を進める。また、降水分布データを対象にしたスパースセンサ位置最適化研究を進め、降水量や気象など、洪水予測に重要となる気象量を効率よく観測可能な観測ネットワークについて提案する。また、AIを用いた災害緩和手法の構築に向けて、AIを用いた強化学習による災害緩和手法の開発に取り組む。
(c)衛星ビッグデータを用いた豪雨の高頻度予測:最適輸送問題をコスト関数にしたデータ駆動型降水予測手法の研究開発を進める。これまでに、Wasserstein Distanceを学習するWGANの仕組みによる降水量の高解像度化に成功しており、全球降水マップは数値気象予測データにこの高解像度化技術を適用することで、豪雨の高度予測を実現する。更に、静止気象衛星ひまわりと数値気象予測データを深層学習器で統合する高頻度豪雨予測手法を開発する。
