Outline of Research at the Start

本研究では、緑内障による視野障害を対象として、自動運転ではない別のアプローチから自動車の安全な運転を可能にするための方法論の開発に取り組む。危険に近づかないようにする「守り」のアプローチと、危険があるかもしれない中で積極的に周囲に注意を向け、必要に応じて適宜対処する「攻め」のアプローチを考慮に入れ、それらを組み合わせることが必要であるとの仮説を立て、それを検証する。また、ドライバが「守り」と「攻め」とをバランスよく主体性をもって行えるように促すための運転支援のプロトタイプを構築し、その有効性を検証する。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study aimed to develop a driving assitance system for visually impaired drivers, such as glaucoma patients, by maintaining the driver has the control authority. The key idea is to make a balance of reducing the exposure of the risks and active attention allocation in a given situation. The target level of safety was that of the healthy ordinal drivers. We have conducted several experiments with driving simulators. Based on the results, we conclude that even visually impaired drivers may be able to drive safely by reducing the risk exposure and providing auditory guidance for attention allocation upon appearance of obstacles.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

視野障害を有するドライバの運転を対象として、リスクマネジメントの考え方として、「攻め」と「守り」という二つの観点を提出し、それらのバランスをとることの重要性を指摘した点において、本研究の学術的な意義があると考える。
また、視野障害を有するドライバであっても、適切にマネジメントすれば安全な運転ができる可能性を示せた点において社会的な意義がある。本研究の結果から直ちにすべての視野障害を有する人の安全な運転を保証できるものではもちろんないが、運転に不安を感じている方々にとって、より安全な運転を行うための指針を提供できるようになると考えられる。
