Outline of Research at the Start

ガラスバルク体を出発物質とした超高圧合成技術を用いて、ナノサイズの結晶からなり透光性の高い様々な「透明ナノセラミックス」の合成を行い、それらの機械特性や光学特性などを明らかにする。またガラスからの結晶化過程を、放射光X線その場観察や回収試料の透過型電子顕微鏡観察により明らかにし、透明ナノセラミックス生成機構の解明を行う。これらの実験結果に基づき、透明ナノセラミックス科学の開拓を行うとともに、高圧相からなる新しいセラミックスの開発を目指す。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

グラッシーカーボンからのナノ多結晶ダイヤモンド高品質バルク体(NPD)の合成を9、12、15万気圧の比較的マイルドな圧力下での合成を行い、得られた試料に対して透過電顕観察を含む詳細な分析をおこなった。この結果、9万気圧においてはグラファイトの準安定的生成により、純粋なNPDは得られなかった。12万気圧においてもグラファイトの準安定的生成が認められ、これがダイヤモンド化を妨げることが明らかになったが、2300℃以上において純粋なNPD合成が確認された。一方15万気圧においては、比較的低温の1700℃程度で純粋なNPDの生成が確認された。なお、12万気圧で得られたNPDは、最大2-3ミクロン程度に粒成長していることが認められた。逆にこの点を利用して、ミクロンサイズの多結晶体(マイクロ多結晶ダイヤモンド:MPD)の合成を試みつつある。一方で、大阪大学・スタンフォード大学との共同研究で、このようにして得られたNPD試料に対してレーザー衝撃圧縮実験を行い、TPa領域での構造変化や密度変化の解明と、NPDの高い圧縮強度の原因に関する研究をすすめつつある。
ガス浮遊炉を用いて、Y3Al5O12やMg2SiO4など通常はガラス化が困難な様々な化学組成に対して、ガラスのバルク体の作成を行った。これらのガラスを出発物質として用いたイットリウム・アルミニウム ・ガーネット(YAG)のナノ多結晶体の合成に関しては、一部超高圧合成実験を行ったが、試料の分析や追加実験は令和6年度に実施する予定である。これらに加えて、SPring-8における放射光X線を用いた高圧下でのガラス構造分析のための新たな技術開発や、シリカガラスの高圧下での構造変化に関する成果などが得られている。一方で、Na(Al,Cr)Si2O6ジェーダイトのナノ多結晶体を用いたなど、高温高圧下での弾性波速度変化の測定も試みられつつある。

Reason

本年度設定した課題のうち、ガラス状炭素を用いたNPD合成に関しては、15万気圧以下の比較的マイルドな条件下における純粋なNPD合成可能領域を決定するとともに、TEM観察などによる組織・粒径観察や、X線回折・顕微ラマン分光分析などにより、興味深い結果が得られている。これらの結果に基づき、従来よりもマイルドな条件下でのNPD合成条件が見出されるとともに、これまで実現していないミクロンサイズの粒径からなる純粋なダイヤモンド多結晶体(MPD)合成の可能性が明らかになったことは重要な成果である。
ガラスからの多様なナノ多結晶体の合成に関しては、ガス浮遊炉を用いて、Y3Al5O12などのガラス化が困難であったが、キール大学との共同研究によりこの点を克服し、超高圧下での合成実験が開始されたが、予定していた得られた試料の分析に関しては現在進行中であり、令和6年度に持ち越された。高圧下でのガラスの構造解析について、新たに装置・技術上の大きな進展が見られたが、予定していた組成のガラスの構造変化課程と結晶化過程の観察には至っていない。この間分担者のうちの2名が他機関に転出したこともあり、これらの課題についてはやや遅れが生じたことは否めない。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

分担者のうち2名が令和4年度、令和5年度にそれぞれ他機関に転出したため、一部の課題については実施が遅れているが、オンラインでのやりとりに加えて研究代表者の所属する地球深部ダイナミクス研究センターの共同利用・共同研究機能も活用して、引き続き当初の目的に向けて研究を進める予定である。
今後の2年間では、特にガラス状炭素を出発物質にして用いた多様な粒径を有するNPD(MPD)の機械的・光学的特性の解明を重点的に実施するとともに、これらの超高圧装置への応用についても新たな研究を推進する。
一方で、特にイットリウム・アルミニウム ・ガーネット(YAG)、及びこれに微量元素をドープしたガラスを用いた透明ナノセラミックスの合成を引き続き行うとともに、得られた試料の光学的・機械的性質の解明も予定どおりすすめる。また、その他のケイ酸塩ガラスの構造変化や結晶化の観察、弾性波速度測定に関しても、分担者や研究協力者との共同により計画通り研究をすすめる予定である。
