Outline of Research at the Start

地球的課題である水資源確保のために、次世代型の膜分離法である正浸透(FO)膜法の開発を行う。FO膜法は、浸透圧差による自発的な水透過を利用するため外部圧力付加が不要で、究極の省エネルギー水処理技術となる。本研究では、チャネル型高透水性FO膜、刺激応答相分離型高浸透圧駆動溶液(DS)の開発を行い、海水淡水化での実証を目指す。また、FO膜法を用いた浸透圧発電(Pressure Retarded Osmosis; PRO)にも取り組む。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

地球的課題である水資源確保のために、次世代型の膜分離法である正浸透(FO)膜法の開発を行う。従来の膜分離は外部圧力付加が必要だが、FO膜法は浸透圧差による自発的な水透過を利用するため外部圧力付加が不要で、究極の省エネルギー水処理技術となる。本研究ではFO膜法の確立のため、水チャネル等による高透水性FO膜、刺激応答性相分離型高浸透圧駆動溶液(DS)の開発を行い、海水淡水化等での実証を目指す。また、FO膜法を用いた浸透圧発電(Pressure Retarded Osmosis; PRO)の検討にも取り組む。このような検討により、応用までを含めたFO膜法の体系化を図る。2023年度は、高透水性FO膜と刺激応答性DSの高性能化をそれぞれ達成するとともに、それらを用いた水処理プロセスのラボ実証を行った。
1.新規高透水性FO膜の開発:チャネル型FO膜として金属水酸化物ナノシートを導入したFO膜の検討を行った。金属水酸化物ナノシート導入により透水性と耐ファウリング性の向上を確認した。イオンビーム飛跡グラフト重合法によるチャネル膜では、引き続きFO性能評価を行った。無機ゼオライト膜の開発では80℃の高温でもFOが可能であることを確認した。また、これらFO膜開発を支援するため、分子動力学(MD)シミュレーションを用いた水チャネルモデル解析を行った。
2.新規刺激応答性DSの創製:新たにpH応答性相分離型DSを開発し、これまでのイオン液体型DSを上回る高浸透圧を示すことを確認した。熱応答性ポリマーDS開発では、従来よりも低分子量のDSを見出し、平均分子量1300程度でも漏洩性を抑えることが可能であることを明らかにした。
3.FO膜透過とDS再生を含む連続システムによるFS評価とFO膜システムの実証:DSを連続再生するFO連続システムにより24時間の連続運転を行い、プロセスの安定性を確認した。

Reason

1.新規高透水性FO膜の創製
(1)水チャネルや膜表面改質等による高透水性FO膜の創製:新たに金属水酸化物ナノシートを水チャネルとして導入した新規FO膜を作製した。亜鉛とアルミニウムの複合水酸化物ナノシートの導入により、透水性のみならず耐ファウリング性も向上することを確認した。(2)イオンビーム飛跡グラフト重合法によるナノウォーターチャネルFO膜の構築:イオンビーム飛跡グラフト重合法により作製したFO膜の性能評価を行った。チャネル表面の親水化処理により塩阻止性と水透過性の促進を確認した。(3)革新的ロバスト無機ゼオライトFO膜の創製:種々のゼオライトのミクロ細孔を水チャネルとする無機FO膜を作製した。表面修飾ゼオライト膜において、80℃でもFO分離が可能であることを確認した。(4)計算機科学による高機能FO膜開発支援:分子動力学シミュレーションによりナノシートをチャネルとした水透過・塩阻止モデルを構築した。
2.新規刺激応答性駆動溶液(DS)の創製
(1)刺激応答性イオン液体DSの創製:pHにより可逆的に溶解度が変わるポアルキルアミン/2-ピリジンカルボキシアルデヒド混合液を見出した。高pHで両物質がイミン形成することで相分離することを利用したもので、従来知られた熱応答性イオン液体DSよりも高い浸透圧を示した。(2)刺激応答性有機ポリマーDSの開発:従来知られた有機ポリマーDSより分子量が小さいが(平均分子量1300)、FO膜からの漏洩が少ない有機ポリマーDSを見出した。従来の有機ポリマーDS以上の濃縮速度を示した。
3.FO膜透過とDS再生を含む連続システムによるFS評価とFO膜システムの実証
開発FO膜と開発DSを用いて、DSを再生しながら連続FO分離を行う連続運転システムを用いてラボ実証試験を行った。24時間の連続運転で人工塩水から約2LMHのフラックスで水分離が可能であった。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

1.新規水チャネル型FO膜の創製
(1)水チャネル型FO膜の創製:透水性を維持しつつ塩阻止性や耐ファウリング性を向上させるため、膜表面修飾により膜の最適化を行う。(2)イオンビーム飛跡グラフト重合法によるナノウォーターチャネルFO膜の構築:膜の最適化を進め、高透水性が得られる製膜条件を明らかにする。(3)革新的ロバスト無機ゼオライトFO膜の創製:ゼオライト膜の表面修飾の最適化検討を継続し、高透水性の無機ゼオライトFO膜を創製する。(4)計算機科学による高機能FO膜開発支援:引き続き分子シミュレーションにより水チャネルによる水透過と塩透過阻止のモデル解析を行い、高性能FO膜の開発を支援する。
2.新規刺激応答性駆動溶液(DS)の創製
(1)刺激応答性イオン液体DSの創製:これまでに設計した UCST型DSやpH応答性DSについてFO性能を詳細に比較検討し、化学構造とDS性能(相転移温度、浸透圧、粘度等)の関係性を明らかにし、その設計指針を明らかにする。(2)刺激応答性有機ポリマーDSの開発:今年度見出した低分子量タイプDSなど、これまでに得られた有望DSについて連続FOシステムで安定性や耐久性などを評価し、DSとしての最適化指針を構築する。
3.FO膜透過とDS再生を含む連続システムによるFS評価とFO膜システムの実証
海水淡水化等でFO連続実証運転を行った結果に基づきFS評価を行う。また、次年度は最終年度であるので、これまでの知見を整理し総合的な考察を行って、FO膜とDSのそれぞれの最適化指針およよびFOプロセスの設計指針を確立する。
