Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、電子・正孔が再結合した過渡的状態としての準粒子であるエキシトンを光機能担体として深化させ、その高度制御に基づく新たな有機エキシトニクス技術の確立と革新的発光機能・デバイスの実現を目指すものである。従来概念では、電子-正孔対に相当するエキシトンは、励起状態で全スピン角運動量が固定されている閉殻系分子に局在したエキシトンのみを対象とした学理を基盤とするものであった。本研究提案では、従来概念からは一線を画す革新的な有機エキシトン制御・利用技術の開拓に挑戦する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は、エキシトンを光機能担体として深化させ、その高度制御に基づく新たな有機エキシトニクスの基盤技術の確立と革新的発光機能・デバイスの実現を目的としている。研究実施計画に基づき、今年度は次の1~3の課題について取り組んだ。
1.高速スピン変換可能な有機発光材料の探索とスピン混成状態からの発光(重畳蛍光)の実証について継続的に検討を進め、スピン軌道相互作用を効果的に高められる分子設計指針を獲得した。カルコゲンとして、酸素、硫黄、セレンを同一骨格に組み込んだ新規狭帯域発光材料を系統的に開発し、それらのスピン変換および励起ダイナミクスを詳細に解析した。その結果、複数のセレン含有化合物において、1秒間に1億回以上の超高速スピン変換を達成し、材料ライブラリー化が可能となった。さらに、高速スピン変換能が有機ELデバイスのロールオフ特性の改善に有効であることを実証した。
2.上記の高速スピン変換材料をベースとし、効率的な蛍光共鳴エネルギー移動(FRET)が可能なエネルギーカスケードシステムを構築した。ストークスシフトの小さい狭帯発光材料をゲスト(エネルギーアクセプター)として用いることで、実デバイスにおいてロールオフを大幅に抑制できることを見出した。
3.トリフェニルメチル系ラジカルを種々のドナー性置換基で修飾した分子群について、ドナー部位がラジカルの光安定性に及ぼす効果を明らかにし、安定な発光性有機ラジカルの設計に有用な知見を得ることができた。

Reason

高速スピン変換可能な有機発光材料のライブラリー化を進め、複数の理想的な重畳蛍光分子の開発に成功した。さらに、基礎的なサイエンスの深化とともに、実デバイスにおける機能実証などの応用研究も並列的に順調に進展している。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

今後は、スピン変換速度をどこまで高められるかという基礎科学的な問いに対して、理論と実験の両面から解を導き出したいと考えている。加えて、実用面からはより高耐久な材料が求められており、素子寿命改善に資する材料開発も進めていきたい。
