Outline of Research at the Start

スピンと熱の相関を扱う「スピンカロリトロニクス」とよばれる新しい研究分野が注目を集めている。この研究は、スピン角運動量の流れとして定義される「スピン流」と熱の相互作用を扱うものであり、興味深い物理が豊富にあるのに加え、スピンの概念を取り入れることによる新しい熱電変換素子や冷却素子などへの応用展開が期待されている。そこで、本研究ではナノメートルサイズの磁性構造を作製し、熱とスピンの相関現象に関連する革新的な物理を解明し、その機能を極限まで引き出す。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究の目的は、ナノスケールの磁性ナノ超構造を基軸とし、熱とスピンの相関現象に係る革新的な物理を解明しその機能を極限まで引き出すことである。今年度は、高いゼーベック効果を示す半導体材料に磁性Fe原子を添加した構造において、比較的大きな異常ネルンスト効果が観測されることを明らかにした。多孔質薄膜において熱磁気効果を調べた結果、気孔率などのナノ構造の構造物性に応じて、ゼーベック効果や異常ネルンスト効果などの大きさが大きく変化することが分かった。また、イオン液体に電圧を印加した際に形成される電気二重層の作り出す超強電界効果を熱・スピン機能に活用するため、磁性材料薄膜の電界制御効果を調べた。その結果、強磁性薄膜の電子状態の変化に伴い、面内磁化と垂直磁化が制御することができることが明らかになった。さらに、温度勾配から励起されるスピン波スピン流、およびマグノンドラック効果による熱電効果について理論的解析を行った。磁性膜間の相互作用を反強磁性結合にすることで、スピン波の振幅と熱電効果を増大できることを示した。また、非磁性キラル物質から誘起される伝導電子スピン流に対する解析を行い、らせん結晶構造を持つ非磁性物質からスピン分極電流が得られることを示した。加えて、計測データのクラスタリング手法を開発し、既存の手法では見つけにくい微小領域のスペクトルを分類することに成功した。本手法により、新しいスピンカロリトロニクス材料について、未知の化学状態や局所反応を検出することが可能となる。

Reason

グラニュラー構造や多層構造、高ゼーベック材料への磁性体添加構造などのナノ超構造における熱電機能の制御や増大化などの研究がおおむね計画通りに進んでいる。また、今年度の目標であったポーラス構造のデザインと創製およびその熱磁気特性の解明に関する研究も順調に進んでいる。さらに、磁性体中の熱電効果の理論的解析や、計測とマテリアルズインフォマティクスとの組み合わせによる解析の効率化も着実に進んでおり、その進捗度もおおむね順調であるため。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

今後は、磁性ナノ構造における熱・スピン機能のダイナミクスを明らかにするため、レーザーを用いたダイナミカル磁気熱効果の測定を行う。同時に、電界効果の機能を高めるため、材料と構造のスクリーニングを進める。また、化学的手法により、磁性半導体量子ドット集合体の作製を行う。作製条件を最適化することにより、量子ドットのサイズの分散が小さな集合体を得る。作製した磁性ナノ超構造の結晶性、微細構造、および構成組成を、X線回折、走査電子顕微鏡、電子線マイクロアナライザなどにより解析する。これらの磁性ナノ超構造に用いる材料や微細構造の選定のための設計指針を、VASPを用いた第一原理計算や、LLG方程式に基づいた磁化ダイナミクスのシミュレーションにより構築し、得られた指針や知見をナノ超構造の作製ノウハウにフィードバックする。磁気特性や磁化構造が明らかになったナノ超構造について、異常ネルンスト効果などの熱磁気効果の測定を行い、構造・磁気パラメータと熱磁気機能の相関を明らかにする。
