Outline of Research at the Start

本研究では、構造の制御された超分岐高分子(HBP)の末端置換基の分子間相互作用を利用する新しい高分子材料創製法を提案し、この実現を図る。すなわち、研究代表者が開発した、リビングラジカル重合を用いる、構造制御と実用性の両方を兼ね備えたHBP合成法を基盤とし、この技術の合成面での深化による機能と構造の多様化に加え、最先端解析技術を用いたHBP凝縮構造と物性の解明、さらに実験結果のデータベース化とAIを用いた機械学習によるHBP反応・材料インフォマティックスの統合的な構築を行う。これにより、高機能性とリサイクル性に優れた、次世代合成高分子材料創製を行う。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では研究代表者が開発した、制御ラジカル重合法による構造の制御された多分岐高分子(HBP)を用いる新しい高分子材料開発に関して、1) 構造制御されたHBPの合成の深化、2) HBPの物性・機能の解明、3) 機能開発・材料応用への展開、4) HBP反応・材料インフォマティクスの確立、の四つの課題について検討を行った。以下に、その実績の概要を示す。
1)従来行っていた均一系の重合では、線状高分子合成も含め、重合の進行に伴う粘度増加に起因する実用的な問題が顕在化している。その解決を目指し、水中でのエマルジョン重合に着目した。その結果、分岐数が255に達する第8世代のHBPの合成と、線状構造と分岐構造、あるいは異なる分岐構造からなる「トポロジカルブロック重合体」の合成に成功し、分岐構造により粘度が制御できることを明らかにした。
2)HBP生成過程に対して確率論的シミュレーションを適用することで、HBPの構造予測を行った。その結果、分散度の広がりが分岐点数の分布に由来しており、停止反応などの副反応の影響ではないことを明らかにした。さらに、分子量の分布が広くなっても、分岐構造自体は制御されていることも示唆された。加えて、分岐構造生成したHBPの構造の分布の解析により、予想された分岐構造を持つHBPの重量分布が最も多いことを明らかにした。
3)HBPの末端に選択的に官能基を入れる技術の開発に成功し、その高分子の特性の解明と材料創製への応用について検討した。
4)HBP合成に用いているラジカル共重合反応に関し、既知の文献データを網羅的に収集し、データベースの構築を行ない、ウェブ上で公開した。さらに、このデータベースを用いた機械学習により、共重合性に及ぼす因子の定量化の検討を開始した。

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

研究実績の概要で示した1)~4)の項目の進捗状況に関して以下に説明する。
1)水中でのエマルジョン重合によるHBP合成においては、従来均一系重合で用いていた分岐誘起モノマーが水との相溶性の問題で適していない、という予想外の結果があった。しかし、それを新たなモノマーの設計と合成で解決する等、順調に進捗していると判断している。
2)HBPの構造に関する情報を実験で直接確認することは極めて困難である。さらに、HBP合成において分子量分布が広くなることや、本当に想定している構造のHBPができているかについては、実験では全く答えを出すことができなかった。それに対し、今回、シミュレーションを用いることで、これらの重要な問題に関して傍証を得られたことは極めて重要な成果であると認識している。シミュレーションの結果を実験と突き合わせることで、さらに本研究で用いるHBPの物性・機能の解明が進むものと期待している。
3)HBP末端基の相互作用を利用する材料創製に向けて、詳細に検討を行うのに適した官能基の選択と、その官能基を末端に持つHBPの合成に成功した。基礎的データが得られてきており、今後ますます進展するものと考えている。
4) ウェブ上に公開したラジカル共重合に関するデータベースはすでに世界中からのアクセスが確認されている。HBPの合成と物性に関するデータベースも構築が始まっており、二つのデータベースの統合も視野に入っている。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

研究実績の概要で示した1)~4)の項目について、今後の研究の推進方策について以下に説明する。
1) 水中でのエマルジョン重合の利点を最大限に活かし、モノマーの違いとトポロジーの違いを利用する新しいブロック共重合体の合成を検討し、その物性や材料創製へと発展を図る。さらに、エマルジョン重合においても、実用性に関する問題点が顕在化してきていることから、その解決を図る。
2)レオロジー測定を中心としたバルク系での構造と物性の相関について、引き続き系統的に検討する。ブロック共重合体の合成に格段の進歩があったことから、両親媒性のトポロジカルブロック共重合体に着目し、分岐構造の相分離構造などに及ぼす効果を明らかにする。もう一つは、選択的に重水素化ラベルしたHBPを用いた中性子散乱実験も可能になってきたことから、その検討も行う。さらに、末端官能基を導入したHBPの物性に関しても、次項目の材料創製と関連させながら、基礎物性の測定を行う。
3) 末端官能基化HBP合成について、ようやく一つのブレークスルーが行えたと認識していることから、当初に提案した検討が可能になってきた。そこで、単純な官能基を持つ末端官能基化HBPを用いた材料創製を進めながらも、並行して選択的な相互作用を持つ官能基を持つ末端官能基化HBPの合成を進め、それを用いた材料創製についても検討を進める。
4) すでにウェブ公開したラジカル共重合のデータベースについては、新たに新規データを加えるモジュールを加えると共に、新しいモノマーペアの共重合について信頼性の高いデータを持つ研究者と協業することで、データベースの拡充を行う。さらに、反応性比の機械学習に関しても、最近開発されてきた手法なども利用することで、予測精度の向上を図る。さらに、HBPの合成と物性のデータベースについても、引き続き地道にデータ習得を行い、データベースの拡充を図る。
