Outline of Research at the Start

火星の環境は温暖湿潤な環境から乾燥冷却な環境へと進化を遂げたと考えられているが、その要因として火星大気が宇宙空間へと流出したことが考えられている。これまでの先行研究では火星大気と太陽風との相互作用に着目してたきたが、本研究ではさらに、火星から流出する大気の組成変化に火星の下層・中層大気が及ぼす影響を解明することが目的である。そのために、欧州火星衛星TGOに搭載された赤外線分光器NOMADを使用したCO/CO2分布の下層~上層大気の連続観測をして、下層大気における渦拡散係数の変動の有無を解明する。散逸大気についても、電離大気組成との相関の有無を観測的に明らかにする予定である。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は火星下層大気の変動が大気の流出源となる上層大気の組成に与える影響を、下層から上層の大気に渡って探査機データを用いて総合的に解明することを目的とした研究である。
本年度は、下層・中層大気の組成変動に着目して特に解析を行っており、欧州の火星周回衛星Trace Gas Orbiter搭載の分光器NOMADの大気スペクトルから一酸化炭素(CO)混合比を導出し、季節変化、緯度変化等の解析を行った。
下層・中層大気の観測結果からは、まず、中層大気における循環や擾乱による拡散の度合いを示す指標である渦拡散係数が季節・半球で2倍程度変動することを示唆した。これは、上層大気の大気組成分布を決める均質圏界面の高度が火星の南半球夏の時期に上昇したという先行研究の観測結果が、下層大気の循環・擾乱が活発になったことで引き起こされたと観測的に初めて示唆した結果である。この研究成果はYoshida et al. (2022)として学術誌Geophysical Research Lettersに掲載された。さらに、導出したCO混合比と光化学反応を含む火星全球大気大循環モデルを比較し、背景大気の循環の季節変化や熱潮汐波による上昇流・下降流の地方時変化によってCO混合比が変動することを初めて明らかにした。本研究から、微量大気成分が大気循環によって大きく変動することを明らかにできた。当内容は国際学術雑誌へ投稿予定である。
なお、本年は約4ヶ月ほどベルギーの研究所に滞在し研究を遂行するとともに、海外学会での発表を3回、国内学会での発表を3回行った。
