Outline of Research at the Start |
This study investigates the current state and future interventions toward the development of pedagogical competencies of Japanese faculty teaching academic courses to international and domestic students using English-Medium Instruction (EMI). The study includes a series of in-depth quantitative and qualitative investigations involving the field’s three primary stakeholders: (1) Japanese university lecturers teaching in English; (2) international students in Japan; and (3) Japanese students taking courses in English.

Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The research is being conducted as planned. The final stage of data collection was completed in 2023. We drafted results and submitted to Teaching in Higher Education journal. We also presented at several domestic and international conferences and symposia. We are planning to present the final results at an Education Conference in June 2024 (Kyrgyz Republic, Bishkek). Based on our research findings we also conducted teacher workshops in 2023 for university professsors.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
All activities are progressing smoothly. However we decided to apply for an additional 1 year project extension (to use the remaining funds efficiently) and present our findings at an international education conference in 2024.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Because it is taking time to publish our final results (article is currently under review) we decided to apply for an additional 1 year extension and present our findings at an international education conference in 2024. We will also hold a few teacher workshops and practical sessions at domestic universities (University of Tsukuba, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, Bunkyo Gakuin University) to share the results of our research.
