Outline of Research at the Start |
This study aims to identify the types of training and support that can be offered online to elementary school teachers who teach English classes or English language activities from 2020. This will be achieved through a country-wide needs analysis survey and small-scale interventions.
|
Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
This study aims to identify the types of training and support that can be offered online to elementary school teachers of English including English language activities. In 2022, the researchers organized interviews with elementary school teachers of English and the findings were reported at the JALT 2022 Conference in Fukuoka. These interviews provided the basis for the development of a wide-scale survey that was conducted online in 2023. Responses were obtained from 500 current and former elementary school English teachers. The results were analysed partially and were to be presented at conferences and in academic papers. However, due to sudden illness of the main investigator, all research was put on hold and the research project was extended for an additional year.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
4: Progress in research has been delayed.
Reason
The first stage of the project was delayed due to Covid. The second stage of the project involving the development and implementation of a large-scale survey went as planned. However, reporting on the results of the survey was delayed again due to health issues of the main investigator. The project has been extended for another year.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The large-scale survey has already been implemented and the results will be analyzed in full this year. The researchers plan to present the findings in academic conferences and at training and development sessions for elementary school teachers supported by local boards of education.
