| Outline of Research at the Start |
本研究は門跡寺院を対象に、中近世移行期（15～17世紀）の顕密寺社の歴史的展開を広く明らかにするものである。門跡に関する研究は16世紀の分析が手薄であり、中近世の分野横断的な研究は活発ではない。こうした状況を克服するためには史料の掘り起こしや、基礎データの構築が必要である。
本研究では『若王子文書』『曼殊院文書』、叡山文庫などに所蔵されている中近世移行期の門跡に関わる未翻刻資料を調査・翻刻する。また既刊の史料集などを活用し門跡の聖俗双方にわたる活動を収集し基礎データを構築していく。こうした史料や基礎データを広く学界に提供することで、今後の発展的かつ分野横断的な研究が進展することが期待できる。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study is an attempt to make a cross-disciplinary discussion of the history of religion during the Middle-Modern transition period by collecting and comprehensively examining historical documents related to monzeki temples, focusing on the period from the 15th to the 17th century, which is the Middle-Modern transition period.
On June 16, 2024, we held a symposium titled “Exploring the Possibility of a Theory of Monzeki Temples in the Middle and Early Modern Periods. The symposium featured reports by Yusuke Kondo, Kazumasa Soma, Mitsutoshi Ota, Hiroyuki Ishizu, and Yuki Mizutani, as well as comments by Soichiro Ota and a discussion moderated by Hiroki Kikuchi. After the symposium, we plan to compile these results into a written report, which we plan to publish by the end of FY2025.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究は中近世の門跡に関わる史料を収集・分析・発表することを通じて、日本中近世宗教史の分野横断的な議論の構築を試みた。成果の一つとして開催したシンポジウム（「中近世門跡論の可能性を探る」2024年6月24日、東京大学史料編纂所大会議室）では50名を超える研究者の参加があった。こうした成果により、中近世をつなぐ分野横断的な研究が、さらに発展していくことが期待できる。
