Outline of Research at the Start |
I plan to do‘lab-in-the-field’ economic experiments on household decision-making. FY2021 will be a year of planning. I will then run two economic experiments on decision-making in FY2022 and FY2023 with married couples in Indonesia. I plan to present the results at international conferences and send them for publication in academic journals.

Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The policy measures put in place to limit the effect of the COVID pandemic continued to delay fieldwork in Indonesia where experiments are planned at sites away from Jakarta. While actual experiments have been delayed, other activities have been undertaken.
In December 2022 I was able to visit the University of Indonesia, in Jakarta and meet with the research team from the Faculty of Economics over three days. I gave face-to-face training sessions to researchers and presented new theoretical models.
I wrote two papers on household experiments around the world that are accepted for publication and will appear in FY2023.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
As mentioned earlier, the pandemic restrictions have slowed preparations for this research. Many internal flights have been removed or limited until 2023. Restrictions on entry into public buildings were also strict until recently which means that it has been hard to recruit subjects for experiments. We will do the field work this year now that restrictions on movement have been eased in Japan and Indonesia.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
1. We will do the fieldwork in the summer-fall of 2023. Before that there will be planning visits to Japan by my Indonesian partners. Local research assistants will be recruited, field pilots undertaken and then the main experiments. 2. To discuss research on household experiments in developing economies, I am organizing a small international conference to be held at GRIPS in September 2023. 3. We will make presentations about the results in Japan and Europe.
