地場産業を中心とする産業集積（産地）においては事業者数が減少しており、産地内の社会的分業に存立基盤をもっていた中小企業は、事業を継続するために生産システムを再構築する必要に迫られている。一方、その再構築の過程が、産地という単位を超えたより広い地理的範囲での産業集積生成につながっている可能性がある。縮小する産地に立地する中小企業の生産システム再編成がどのように行われ、産業集積の構造にどのような影響を与えるのか、という課題に本研究は取り組む。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study examines the restructuring of business systems by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) based on the social division of labor in local industries, and its effect on the structure of industrial cluster. When SMEs restructure their business systems, the degree to which they bear additional transaction costs influences their make-or-buy choices to secure resources and functions and the location of their trading partners. And, these choices may force changes in the existing social division of labor in local industries.
It is also shown that the structure that had completed the social division of labor within a region has in fact changed to an interregional social division of labor. It is suggested that one of the solutions for SMEs facing the shrinkage of local industries to achieve sustainable management is to aim for the expansion of interregional transactions.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究は地場産業産地において、産地縮小に直面する中小企業によるビジネスシステムの再構築における選択論理を考察することによって、産地内で形成されてきた社会的分業生産システムの課題と変化の実態の一端を明らかにすることができた。また、変化の過程において産地を超えた新たな社会的分業生産システム形成の可能性が示されたことで、中小企業政策および産業立地政策へのインプリケーションとして、中小企業が産地間取引を円滑に進めるための環境整備が重要であるという知見を得た。
