Outline of Research at the Start

ヒッグス対生成過程は、ヒッグス場の形状を表すヒッグス粒子自己結合の直接測定が可能である。この過程は標準理論内では稀崩壊だが新物理の寄与により増幅すると期待され、さらに新型トリガーが導入され、現行実験においても重要性が急激に増しており、ヒッグス場解明および方法論確立は喫緊の課題である。本研究では、ヒッグス粒子対生成事象をプローブとして、ヒッグス自己結合定数やVVHH結合などの多様な測定を世界に先駆けて行い、素粒子標準理論の脆弱部分であるヒッグス場構造の全貌を解明、つまり電弱対称性の自発的破れを直接的に検証し、その背後にある新物理を探索する。もって、宇宙の真空・誕生進化の謎に迫る。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究の目的は、ヒッグス粒子対生成 (hh) 事象をプローブとして、(1) ヒッグス自己結合定数などの多様な測定を世界に先駆けて行い、素粒子標準理論の脆弱部分であるヒッグスポテンシャル構造の全貌を解明し、さらにその背後にある新物理を探索すること、および、(2) ヒッグス対生成事象取得専用の大量データ取得法の開発も行い、将来実験に展開することである。
(1) 物理解析の研究では、まず昨年度投稿した2つの研究論文「崩壊分岐比が最大の4bジェット終状態に着目した、ヒッグス粒子対生成非共鳴状態探索」「他の終状態およびヒッグス粒子 単独生成過程の物理解析を統計的統合解析による、自己結合定数の世界最高精度での抽出」を出版された(Phys. Rev. D 108, 052003 (2023), Phys. Lett. B 843 (2024) 137745)。さらに、発見感度が一番高い終状態 (hh->bbττ) におけて、ヒッグス自己結合への感度改善に新たに着目したヒッグス粒子対生成非共鳴状態探索を遂行し、暫定結果を公表した(arXiv:2404.12660 [hep-ex])。
(2) トリガーの研究では、2022年度までに独自開発した"非対称閾値型複数bジェットトリガー”技術を、hh->bbbb 事象の専用トリガーだけでなく、hh->bbττ 事象の専用トリガーへも応用した。性能評価の観点では、信号取得効率の20-50%もの改善を実現した。運用面では、2023年度のデータ取得から開始し、第3運転期間を通じてヒッグス対生成事象取得専用トリガー開発の完遂と安定運用に成功した(arXiv:2401.06630 [hep-ex])。
これらhh探索・自己結合測定・データ収集に関する方法論の確立・データを用いた実証は、現行LHC実験、高輝度LHC、その先も含めた将来実験へつながる研究成果である。

Reason

当初の計画していたhh->bbbbチャンネルにおけるhh非共鳴状態探索を超えて、相補的、かつ、発見感度が一番高い終状態 (hh->bbττ) に着目した研究、ならびに、ヒッグス対事象による直接制限とヒッグス単体事象を用いた間接制限を組み合わせた「究極のヒッグス自己結合解析」も完遂した。
以上から、当初の計画以上に進展していると判断した。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

hh->bbττチャンネルにおけるヒッグス粒子自己結合の直接制限に関する投稿論文の出版を成し遂げる。
