Outline of Research at the Start

本研究では、機械学習を用いた画像解析により、銀河イメージング観測で得られた画像情報をもとに、銀河までの距離推定を行うことを目的としている。
通常機械学習では入力画像データのどのような特徴に反応して結果を返すのかその構造が明確でない場合が多いが、本研究により銀河画像の特徴的な構造を洗い出すことで、銀河の距離決定に、ひいては銀河全体を特徴づける物理量を明確化する。
このことによって、これまでにない新しい指標に基づいた銀河形態学を展開する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本年度は、畳み込みニューラルネットワーク(CNN)の技術を応用し、宇宙論モデルの検証を行う研究を行なった。これまでのCNNを組み合わせて、異なる赤方偏移(時刻)の情報を同時に取り入れることにより、より高度な情報を取り出すことを示した。
また、宇宙論的数値流体シミュレーションを用いて様々な天体物理学的な効果が、どの程度観測量である中性水素が放出(吸収)する21cm線の信号に影響するかを定量的に検証した。その結果、宇宙最電離を起こす紫外光の背景光の強度のモデルの違いが最も顕著に影響を及ぼすことを突き止め、それらがどの程度暖かいダークマターの質量推定に影響を及ぼすかを検証した。
得られた結果は、論文雑誌に投稿し掲載が確定している。
また一方で銀河の赤方偏移推定に関しては、機械学習的な推定法に加えて、ターゲットとなる銀河と、すでに赤方偏移が判明している銀河との空間的な相互相関を取ることによりターゲットの銀河の赤方偏移分布を推定することで、より堅牢な推定を行うことに成功した。得られた成果は論文雑誌に投稿し、掲載されている。また本技術を応用した宇宙論解析の結果も論文として出版された。
本年度は、合計11報の投稿論文と、5件の研究会発表を行なっている。

Reason

大学院生等との共同研究により、機械学習に関する研究、方法論の開発が非常に効率的に進捗した。一方でHSCの最終データリリースに時間を要しており、未だデータが利用できない状況である。この点については、現在利用できる画像データ等を用いて準備を進めているところである。すでに一報の論文を投稿準備中であるが、未だ投稿には至っていない。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

現在作成中の投稿論文を完成させるとともに、銀河の赤方偏移推定の方法論の論文を速やかに出版し、同時にHSC最終データに備えたパイプラインの開発を行う。
パイプラインには、現在開発中のブレンド天体を分離する方法、分離した銀河のそれぞれの赤方偏移を推定する方法が含まれる。
データリリースが行われたら、これまで準備してきたパイプラインにデータを適用する。
