Outline of Research at the Start

Diamond-like carbon(DLC)は、生体に関する活性なインターフェースを発現させることから、先進的な表面処理技術として飛躍的な発展が期待されている。フッ素(F)元素を導入したF-DLCは、常在菌活性化の抑制効果があることが分かった。一方、銅(Cu)は、抗ウイルスおよび抗菌性能を有することが知られているが、腐食性や反応性が高いことから、上記の性能の安定性や長期利用には、表面処理が必要となる。
そこで、抗ウイルスおよび抗菌性能を有するCuの劣化を防止するためにDLCをコーティングし、医療用デバイスへの効果向上を視野に入れた「抗ウイルス性および抗菌性発現の知見」獲得を目的とする。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

Impart new properties to diamond-like carbon (DLC) films by incorporating third elements such as zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), silicon (Si), titanium (Ti), and fluorine (F) is developed. Among these, copper (Cu) has been reported to inhibit enzymes, restrict bacterial activity, and influence bacterial metabolism, thereby exhibiting known antibacterial effects. In this study, copper-doped DLC (Cu-DLC) films were formed using high-frequency plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD), and the relationship between antimicrobial properties and film characteristics was investigated.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

これまで、国内外でDLCの研究開発が競争的に行われており、摺動部品や超硬工具への応用が進み、日本の技術力は世界をリードしていることから国際標準化機構(ISO)規格の取得に大きな貢献をしている。特に、表面平滑性、低摩擦係数、撥水性などの特徴から、抗菌性能を有するDLCの研究が進んでいる。新型ウイルス対策や衛生的生活習慣の向上から、生活用品へ活性元素(銅:Cu)をドープしたCu-DLCコーティング技術が求められ、その技術的課題を解決した製品開発が期待されている。
