Outline of Research at the Start |
This project is a multiphase international project exploring the meaning or professional behaviour and leadership in medical education across two cultures. The project uses Q-methodology to explore and extract the core viewpoints of key stakeholder groups (including medical students, clinicians and administrators) from 60 participants in Japan and the UK. This research will uncover cultural differences in the perceptions between groups and across cultures of professional behaviour and leadership, informing the development of culturally relevant professionalism and leadership frameworks.
|
Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Phase one results have been presented at the Japan Society for Medical Education conference 2022 and presented internationally at AMEE (International Association for Health Professions Education) as oral presentations. This research has been awarded the Japan Society for Medical Education Silver award 2021, and a paper for an international medical education journal is being finalised for publication.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
The implementation of phase 2 has been delayed due to staff changes at the international partner site (Imperial College London) and due to the impact of COVID-19 on the capacity for results analysis and paper preparation. Additionally there is further delay due to maternity leave of the principal researcher.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
There are no changes to the proposed research plan. We aim to complete the paper for phase one and progress with Phase 2. Due to maternity leave of the principal researcher, there will be an application to extend the research period so phase 2 can be completed.
