Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Final Research Achievements
In severe cerebral ischemia such as asphyxiation, aquaporin 4 (AQP4) expression remains unchanged immediately after ischemia, but increases after ischemia-reperfusion. The mechanism of this increase is related to inflammatory cytokines, which are known to be altered by ethanol. Therefore, these findings suggest that the development of drugs targeting inflammatory cytokines may be effective as a treatment for AQP4 to reduce cerebral edema in asphyxiation survivors.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
