Outline of Research at the Start |
Research shows the importance of feedback in the teaching and assessment of speaking in order to assist students' language proficiency. This research analyses in what ways Computer Assisted Language Learning may enhance indiviualized feedback on each student's speaking ability.
|
Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The interactive video feedback process helps provide criteria-based feedback on speaking in a reflective way without interrupting students' speaking. The process also reduced student anxiety when speaking. Data showed greater understanding of speaking criteria by students and opportunities for students to reflect on their speaking critically, leading to independent learning. However, the process requires time and teacher training to use effectively. However, this researcher feels the investment is worthwhile, due to the importance of feedback in learning outcomes, and the value felt by both students and teachers in the process. Further cycles of research will focus on reducing the time commitment and simplifying the process.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
This research presents teachers with a framework to provide feedback on students' speaking in a reflective, informative way that targets fluency and accuracy. The use of CALL engages students and allows them to reflect on their speaking and to become independent learners in a global marketplace.
