Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Final Research Achievements
This study aimed to empirically examine the impact of early childhood performing arts experiences on grit, one of the non-cognitive abilities. The author conducted an online survey from 2019 to 2021. A questionnaire included childhood engagement in the performing arts, current participation and appreciation of performing arts, grit, and demographic and socioeconomic attributes. With the data, we investigated whether the childhood performing arts activities experience and its duration influence on grit. Propensity score matching, and survival analysis were employed. The results revealed that, under certain conditions, childhood experiences in the performing arts have positive contribution to the development of grit. Few empirical studies in Japan have explored the link between performing arts activities and non-cognitive skills. The findings offer valuable insights for educators and policymakers, supporting a reevaluation of the educational role and social value of the performing arts.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
