Outline of Research at the Start

Leber遺伝性視神経症（LHON）は、ミトコンドリア遺伝子の点変異を原因とし、両眼の視力低下と中心視野欠損により視機能が著しく障害される疾患である。若年者の発症が多く、社会的な損失の大きな疾患である。本計画では、iPS細胞を用いてLHONの病態の詳細を明らかにし、発症者に対する治療法の開発と、保因者に対する発症予防法の開発することを目指している。
