Outline of Research at the Start

Machine translation has become a useful tool for intercultural collaboration. However, misunderstanding and inactiveness of team members still occur. This research aims to design and develop an artificial agent to facilitate multilingual and intercultural workshops and help to solve these problems.

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

I have been actively involved in research aiming to improve computer-mediated communication and language learning. With collaborators, I have investigated code-mixing strategies to facilitate interactions with non-native speakers and developed communication support systems for Japanese language learners. Our work, presented at esteemed conferences like Advances in Information Technology and HCI International, has focused on detecting cultural differences and proposing innovative solutions. Additionally, I have played pivotal roles in organizing academic events, serving as Local Co-chair for INTERACTION 2024 and contributing to various technical committees, demonstrating my dedication to advancing interdisciplinary research and fostering collaboration within the academic community.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

Currently, my research continues to advance with promising developments. Alongside the published works in 2023, I am actively pursuing two major work-in-progress projects. Firstly, I'm exploring virtual reality (VR) platforms enhanced with multilingual support for collaborative environments. Initial testing has been conducted, and preparations are underway for upcoming experiments. Secondly, I'm integrating language models like ChatGPT into facilitator agents to provide advanced functionality. This involves experimenting with these language models and the enhanced agent, aiming to leverage their capabilities for more effective communication support.leveraging language model has unveiled new area for addressing cultural differences. Specifically, I am exploring cultural-aware translation.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

Moving forward, my research trajectory is primed for significant expansion and innovation. I plan to further refine and validate my VR-based collaboration platform with multilingual support through comprehensive experimentation, aiming to optimize user experience and efficacy. Additionally, I will continue to explore the integration of Language Models (LLMs) into facilitator agents, focusing on enhancing their adaptability and responsiveness to diverse cultural contexts. My future endeavors also involve delving deeper into cultural-aware translation techniques, with the goal of developing robust and scalable solutions that facilitate seamless cross-cultural communication. In the upcoming year, my focus will center on conducting the final experiments and preparing for publication.
