Outline of Research at the Start

プロトンは水素の陽イオンH+である.エネルギー・環境問題を解決するために,プロトンが高速で伝導する新しい材料(プロトン伝導体)の開発が望まれている.本課題では、酸素原子が最密充填しておらず,本質的な酸素原子の空席(酸素空孔)を持つ新しいプロトン伝導体を探索することを目的としている.結晶構造データベースを用いてスクリーニングした候補材料を実際に合成して,プロトン伝導性と結晶構造を調べ,新しいプロトン伝導体を開発する.

Outline of Final Research Achievements

Intrinsic oxygen vacancies refer to oxygen vacancies inherently present in the parent material. In this project, we successfully discovered novel proton conductors and oxide-ion conductors with intrinsic oxygen vacancies, which had previously remained unexplored. We have demonstrated the crystal structures, transport properties, and conduction mechanisms in these materials. Notably, we updated the benchmark conductivity data five times. Many of these new conductors also exhibit high chemical stability. Through crystal structure analysis and theoretical calculations, we have elucidated the key factors contributing to their high proton and oxide ion conductivities.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究は,未開拓であった本質的な酸素空孔を持つ新規プロトン伝導体と酸化物イオン伝導体の探索,結晶構造と輸送特性の解明,および伝導機構の研究を通じて,新たな学術分野を開拓することに成功した.これにより,物質科学および固体イオニクスの分野において重要な知見を提供し,次世代のイオン伝導体設計に革新をもたらす高い学術的意義を持つ.
さらに,本研究で発見された新材料群は,燃料電池などの電気化学デバイスの性能向上に貢献する可能性がある.よって低コストで高性能なエネルギーデバイスの開発が期待され,クリーンエネルギー技術と持続可能なエネルギー技術の発展に寄与すると考えられる.
