Outline of Research at the Start

人生における逆境体験（貧困、虐待、いじめ、コロナ禍など）を経験しても、それを乗り越えていくことで、通常の環境では発揮しえなかったポテンシャルを発揮し、メンタルヘルスや認知能力などのメンタルキャピタルにおいて通常の発達過程以上の成長を獲得する「超成長」をすることがある。本研究は、子ども期に逆境体験によってさらに精神的成長を遂げる「超成長」についての閾値の解明、さらに促進要因、特に環境要因と個人要因の相互作用、その生物学的要因について明らかにする。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

目的を達成するために以下の２つの研究を遂行した。
研究１:逆境下の子ども期の「超成長」の環境要因の解明／子ども期に逆境体験を経験している集団において、自己肯定感やレジリエンスの向上などの精神的成長（超成長）を達成するための閾値は何か、「超成長」を促進する地域・学校・家庭における環境要因は何か、を明らかにすることを目的として解析をおこなった。まず、超成長そのものを扱う前に、レジリエンスを例に解析を行った。小学校1年生から6年生までの足立区における悉皆縦断調査を用いて、親の積極的な関わり、歯磨きの生活習慣、ロールモデルまたはサードプレイスの存在、ソーシャルサポートが超成長の土台となっていることを明らかにした。また、コロナ禍という逆境体験があっても、レジリエンスを高めることができていた要因として地域のお祭りなどに参加していることが挙げられた。

研究２:青年期における「超成長」の生物学的経路の解明／子ども期、特に思春期において逆境体験をしている場合に「超成長」に必要な子ども自身の生物学的要因を明らかにすることを目的に、足立区の子どもの健康・生活習慣に関する縦断研究」として20歳となったかつての参加者を対象に詳細な質問紙及び心理テストを実施し、さらにMRIによる脳機能の測定を実施した。また、逆境体験を経験していても超成長をしている事例についてインタビューによる質的研究およびバイオマーカーの探索をおこなった。

Reason

コロナにより調査が制限されていたがその制約がなくなってきたことが大きく、順調に進んでいる。ただし、参加者の年齢も上がってきており、追跡調査の参加者の日程調整については以前苦慮しており、ラインを利用するなど工夫している。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

2023年度はこれまでのデータ解析、海外の研究者とのディスカッションによる超成長の定義、足立区の追跡調査の18歳を実施すること、さらに既存のデータ解析により超成長の要因を明らかにすること、生物学的経路を明らかにすることをさらに進めていく予定である。
