Outline of Research at the Start

Flora of Thailand Projectが進むにつれて、タイ産植物の形態種が明らかになってきた。一方、タイ産植物を生物学的種概念で捉え直す取り組みは、まだこれからの段階である。本国際共同研究では、最新のゲノムワイド解析技術を駆使して、タイ産単子葉植物の多様性を生物学的種概念に基づいて捉え直す。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

2023年度は、タイの国立公園ー野生生物ー植物保全局の森林標本館(BKF)との共同で、11月にタイ西部のミャンマー国境付近のターク県ウムパーン(Umphang)とその周辺地域で植物調査を行った。標高45mから1245mの標高差1200mの範囲内の11ヶ所で調査を行い、79科174属の維管束植物を同定し、合計325点のさく葉標本を作製した。
今年度は、BKFの研究者との共同で、特にツユクサ科、ジャノヒゲ属(クサスギカズラ科)の研究が大きく進展した。
ツユクサ科に関しては、まず、Cyanotisの分類に関する研究を進めていて、特に形態的変異の大きいCy. arachnoideaとCy. vagaについて、種認識を再検討する必要があるという証拠を集積しつつある。次に、ツユクサ属（Commelina）については、Co. sikkimensisに類似した不明植物を発見し、これが新種かどうかを検討している。さらに、Co. suffruticosaの２タイプが同所的に生育しているところを見つけ、両タイプが別種の可能性を見出した。また、これまでにまとまった研究のないDictyospermumについては、D. ovatumを新たに入手したことにより、今後の系統解析の重要性が高まった。
ジャノヒゲ属については、タイ北東部のPhu Luangに生育する匍匐植物を、これまでPhu Luangに近接するPhu KraduengのOphiopogon kradungensisに含めて認識してきたが、花形態の詳細な比較により両者は別種であることが判明し、Phu Luangの植物を新種Ophiopogon phuluangensisとして記載した。
そして、タイ新産となるクロウメモドキ科の植物も発見した。

Current Status of Research Progress

Reason

2021年度と2022年度前半は、新型コロナウィルス感染拡大状況等を考慮してタイへの渡航を控え、日本国内の植物さく葉標本を用いた研究を行い、2022年度後半は、タイ南部のマレーシア国境付近で野外植物調査を行った。
2023年度は、タイ西部のミャンマー国境付近の石灰岩地で野外植物調査を行ったが、2021年度と2022年度前半の日本国内での植物さく葉標本に基づいた研究結果をベースに2023年度の野外植物調査を行うことができ、大変効率的に研究を進めることができたので、本研究はおおむね順調に進展していると判断した。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

今後は、引き続いて、野外植物調査、形態解析、染色体解析、葉緑体DNA解析、ゲノムワイド解析を行っていきたいと考えているが、タイの植物を日本の植物との関連で理解する上で、どうしても台湾での野外植物調査が必要になってきた。そこで、2024年度については、台湾で野外植物調査を行いたいと考えている。
