| Outline of Research at the Start |

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this study, we elucidated the function of the transcription factor Epiprofin (Epfn) in the development and post-irradiation repair of salivary glands and identified a novel interacting factor, X. Epfn is expressed in ductal epithelial cells of the salivary glands, and Epfn-deficient mice exhibited morphological abnormalities, indicating its essential role in glandular development. Moreover, we found that factor X is upregulated following irradiation and is associated with Epfn and the Notch signaling pathway, suggesting a potential mechanism underlying salivary gland repair. These findings advance our understanding of the molecular basis of neuro-epithelial interactions during organogenesis and regeneration of the salivary glands, and provide a foundation for developing regenerative therapies aimed at restoring gland function after radiation-induced damage.
