Research Abstract

We have investigated the interactions of biogenic manganese oxides enzymatically formed by Acremonium strictumKR21-2 with various elements such as heavy metal ions and inorganic As species. Mn(II) oxidase is readily embedded in BMO and effectively oxidizes Mn(II) to Mn(IV). Consequently, BMO possesses the strong affinity to various inorganic elements as we as the “self-regeneration” ability, indicating that BMO can be applicable for effective elemental recycling processes.
