Research Abstract |
The influence of Japanese theatrical movements has been strong on “Translated Plays versus Original Plays", “The Value of Classical Theatre", “The Significance of Shinpa and Shingeki", and “The Successes and Failures of the Small Theatre Movement", four representative controversies in the world of Korean theatre. This can particularly be seen in the fact that even though Korean intellectuals already knew and understood the structural problems that afflicted Japanese style theatrical movements, they took these movements in completely and made the same successes and failures. Their actions clearly show the influence of Japanese theatrical theory on the formation of recent and modern Korean theatre.
