Research Abstract |
In the middle of the Edo period, many retainers of the Edo shogunate and feudal lords learned how to write waka poets from court nobles. The pupils were superior to their masters in status and economic power, so they let masters compete in the way of teaching, for example the Reizeis and the Hinos. In this research, I considered the actual situation of the world of waka poets of the Edo shogunate in the eighteenth century, and the expression of retainers in waka poets. They flattered themselves that they were under the direct control of the Edo shogunate with the respect for masters.
