Research Abstract |
In this research, we organized and analyzed the Videoconferencing which was done in the Japanese language by the groups of university students in Japan, Thailand, Turkey and Australia. The outcomes of the research are summarized as follows: (1) Smoother discussions were observed in the videoconferences between two stations than among multi-stations. (2) The frequency of turn-taking was significantly higher in the Japan-Australia videoconference than the Japan-Thailand and Japan-Turkey videoconferences. (3) The discussion topics such as “Marriage” and “Job” were proven to be appropriate topics for the students’ cross-cultural discussions. (4)The discussions became active when students brought up new sub-topics by themselves. The types of new sub-topics differed depending on the groups. The factors back-grounding the aforementioned outcomes of this research, whether they are cultural or group-specific, have not been clarified yet. They are the target of our future research
